Promoting innovations and new technologies in Kazakhstan

From May 30 to June 1, 2011 the UNESCO Cluster Office in Almaty with the National Center for Scientific and Technical Information JSC (JSC NCSTI) will hold a national seminar on "Promotion of scientific research and innovation for economic development."

Effective institutions for technology commercialization are necessary to develop economic innovation and ensure the competitiveness of Kazakh science. The need to attract private investment, to finance research and development and their further implementation is more and more critical. The UNESCO Cluster Office in Almaty in cooperation with JSC NCSTI, one of the biggest national commercialization clearing houses in Kazakhstan, will hold a seminar for representatives of private businesses, leading academic, educational institutions and government agencies.

The seminar will cover issues related to the mechanisms of commercialization of scientific research, the state of scientific and technological development in Kazakhstan and methods of their assessment, the practice of creating projects for commercialization, and more. UNESCO’s initiatives on promotion of science, technology and innovation for economic development also will be presented during the seminar.

The workshop will acquaint Kazakh scientists and entrepreneurs with practical application of the mechanisms and methods of commercialization, as well as open up opportunities to create international cooperation in the area of commercialization and technology transfer.
