Online Meeting on Access to Information and Pandemic Response

The UNESCO Almaty Office will organize an online meeting on access to information and the response to the COVID_19 pandemic for the ministries of information, ombudspersons’ offices, SDG agencies and statistics offices as in Central Asia on 28 September 2020. #AccessToInfoDay #RightToKnow

Dedicated to International Day for Universal Access to Information, the meeting will aim to raise awareness of the importance of the Right to Information in times of crisis, and to promote principles of the right to public information to save lives and address the multiple crises triggered by COVID-19, in particular:
  • To discuss the latest trends in ATI, based on the UNESCO’s report UNESCO Access to Information: A New Promise for Sustainable Development.
  • To advocate for the adoption and implementation of sound constitutional, statutory and/or policy guarantees for access to information in times of crisis;
  • To highlight the impact of proactive sharing of information on health and education, as well as of inclusive and gender-sensitive initiatives, focusing on vulnerable groups, for prosperity and sustainable development
Taking stock of the countries’ response to the COVID-19 crises in this field, the meeting will contribute to indicator SDG16.10.2.

The online meeting will open series of Communication and Information meetings on World Trends in Freedom of Expression and Media Development, as well as Artificial Intelligence and Internet Governance for Central Asian and South-Caucasian region.
