International forum dedicated to inauguration of the International Decade for the Rapprochement of Cultures

International forum dedicated to inauguration of the International decade for the rapprochement of cultures (IDRC) 2013-2022 earlier declared by the UN General Assembly in December 2012 is jointly held by the Republic of Kazakhstan and UNESCO on 23 August 2013 in Astana (Palace of Independence). The forum is to become the starting point for enhancing the efforts of international community targeted towards further advancement of intercultural dialogue in the framework of IDRC.

The main objective of the forum is aimed at bringing together world political, academic and business leaders with the representatives of civil society and NGOs in order to discuss main issues on constituting global agenda for the forthcoming decade all targeted towards further encouragement of intercultural dialogue and cultural diversity in the framework of IDRC.

Heads of international organizations and world known personalities members of the UNESCO High-level Group on Peace and Dialogue among Cultures as well as the experts on ethics and intercultural communication, education and cultural heritage from more than 30 countries of the world will attend the forum.

Among the honorary guests of the event are UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova; UN High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser; ISESCO Director-General Abdulaziz Othman Al-Twaijri; TURKSOY Director-General Dusen Kaseinov; UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Education Kishore Singh; Secretary-General of Latin Academy Candido Mendes; Nobel Prize Laureate for Literature in 1986., Nigerian writer Wole Soyinka; UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, British entrepreneur, philanthropist, co-founder and the chairman of The Maimonides Foundation Nasser David Khalili; UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, renowned artist and former Minister of Foreign Trade of Ecuador Ivonne A-Baki.

Kazakhstani side of the event will be represented by the members of the National Parliament, members of Kazakhstan National Commission for UNESCO and ISESCO as well as a number of prominent scientists and active proponents in the sphere of culture and arts.

The ceremony of awarding UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Certificate to Alakol nature reserve will be held in the framework of the forum. Alakol is the second Kazakhstani biosphere reserve that has been inscribed to the UNESCO Network of Biosphere Reserves.

Under consideration is the possibility of organizing inauguration ceremony celebrating the entitlement of 2012 Olympic Champion, world known Kazakhstani boxer Serik Sapiyev with the honorary title of the UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Sports.
